Overview
Public recruitment involves thousands of candidates, and small errors in an answer key, an eligibility condition or a category decision can change a candidate's result. Where the recruiting body does not correct the error, a writ petition before the High Court may be the remedy.
These matters are time-sensitive. Selection lists are finalised and appointments are made quickly, so petitions need to be filed and interim relief sought early.
Matters handled
- Wrong or disputed answer keys
- Eligibility and qualification disputes
- Category, reservation and migration
- Ex-serviceman and special category claims
- Cut-off and merit list errors
- Non-appointment despite selection
- Cancellation of candidature
- Special appeals before the Division Bench

Frequently asked questions
Can the court change an answer key?
Courts are cautious and rely on expert committees, but they intervene where an answer is demonstrably wrong. Supporting material, such as standard textbooks, is important.
I filed an objection during the recruitment. Is that necessary?
It helps. Raising an objection at the right stage shows that you did not sit on your rights, and the court may ask whether you objected when the opportunity was given.
What if my single-bench writ is dismissed?
An intra-court special appeal can be filed before the Division Bench, generally within 30 days.
